The AEA R84A Ribbon Microphone is modelled expertly on the original RCA 44 ribbon microphones in consultation with the engineers who first designed them. AEA then sourced the original ribbon material and custom made all the tooling to recreate those fabulous mics to original specs. There is simply no better way to get your hands on one of the best ribbon microphones ever produced, even 80 years later.
The A840 maintains that warm, broad sound that is never harsh and fits perfectly in your studio mix. What lifts this mic above all others who shoot for the same target is the combination of this gorgeous ribbon sound with phantom power. Simply put, no one else does it as well as AEA, and this mic is built to last you for decades. If you would like this mic without phantom power, then the AEA R84 is what you are after.
For the uninitiated, ribbon microphones get their name because they use a light metal ribbon suspended between the poles of a magnet and can handle your range better than a condenser mic.
